DOES MY POLICY COVER ME FOR CORONAVIRUS COVID-19?

For policies purchased after 14 April 2020:

See our special coronavirus information page by clicking here.

For policies purchased between 24 April 2019 and 13 April 2020:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19 including mutations) AND AGEAS TRAVEL INSURANCE

Because the World Health Organisation declared the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a pandemic on 11 March 2020 this is now a known event. This affects the cover provided by Ageas Travel Insurance policies. Any policies purchased on or after 14 March 2020 will not include cover under any section (apart from the Medical Expenses section ) for claims directly or indirectly caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This includes any preventative containment or delay measures. For any policies issued before 14 March 2020 cover remains as per the policy terms and conditions.

These policies will not provide any cover if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) are advising against all but essential travel to your destination.  In the present circumstances as the FCO advice on foreign travel is susceptible to rapid and significant change, we strongly recommend that you visit the FCO website to check the up to date advice against your actual or potential travel plans.  You can check whether your destination is on the exempt countries list here.

AM I COVERED IF I NEED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT AND GET SENT TO A PRIVATE FACILITY?

This is not a private health insurance policy. The Insurer will pay for private treatment only if there is no appropriate reciprocal health agreement in existence and no public service available and the Insurer reserves the right to organise a transfer from a private medical facility to a public medical facility where appropriate.

If you are taken/or go to a private medical facility, costs that arise will only be covered if you have contacted  the emergency medical assistance company and any treatment has been authorised by them.

WHAT IS SINGLE TRIP INSURANCE?

Single Trip insurance gives cover for one sole journey of a specified number of days.

This policy is available to UK residents up to a maximum of 365 days if you are aged up to 55 years old. If you are between 56 and 79 years old single trips are limited to 90 days. If you are between 80 and 84 years old single trips are limited to 21 days.

We cover travellers up to the age of 84. Customers older than these limits can be covered under our Goodtogoinsurance.com travel insurance. Visit Goodtogoinsurance.com for a great value quote including the option to add pre-existing medical conditions.

CAN I UPGRADE A POLICY ONCE ISSUED?

Yes, this is possible subject to no claims pending. Call us on 01293 855793. The only exception to this is excess waiver which can only be purchased when you initially buy the policy. We will charge an administration fee of £5 if you require an amendment to your policy once it has been purchased.

WHAT DOES 'HOME COUNTRY' MEAN AS A DESTINATION?

If you select 'Your Home Country' as your destination it means that your travel insurance policy will be priced for travel within your country of residence. This country must be within the UK.

ARE SPORTING AND HAZARDOUS ACTIVITIES COVERED?

All our policies cover some hazardous activities such as water skiing and scuba diving. See policy wording for a full list.

WHAT IS AN EXCESS?

This is the amount that the insurer will deduct from your claim payment under specific sections of the terms of the insurance policy at the time of finalising an agreed claim. See the cover details for your chosen policy for details. An excess waiver that removes all excess charges is offered on some policies for a small extra fee.

Cover levels and Excess charges quoted in the policy and on the website are per person not per policy.

HOW DO I MAKE A CLAIM?

Just read the policy document to find the details of the claims office and phone number. Proof of loss and purchase/ownership of lost items will be needed to progress your claim.

Medical emergencies are handled by contacting the 24-hour Emergency Assistance team at the time of a medical emergency (or within 48 hours).

ARE PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS COVERED?

The travel policies include cover for some pre-existing medical conditions. You must meet the medical criteria shown in the policy and then you will be covered for the conditions shown on the policy at no extra cost. If you don’t meet the criteria, or you need any help or advice then phone our helpline on 01293 855793.

HOW DOES AGE GOVERN PRICES AND COVER?

MRL obtains rates and cover details from leading underwriters who look at past annual industry wide statistics to see where the claims have come from. In general, the older the age group, the higher the claims paid out so prices and excess levels reflect this performance.

UP TO WHAT AGE ARE THE MRL TRAVEL POLICIES AVAILABLE?

Policy Age limit is up to 84 for Single Trip policies and 74 for Annual Multi-trip policies customers older than these limits can be covered under our Goodtogoinsurance.com travel insurance.
